Philadelphia Phillies Claim Infielder Engelb Vielma Off Waivers From Giants

The Philadelphia Phillies claimed infielder Engelb Vielma off waivers from the San Francisco Giants Monday afternoon.

Phillies beat writer Matt Gelb tweeted out the move.

The Giants claimed Vielma off of waivers from the Twins back in September. The 23-year-old shortstop has a career .256 average with two home runs in 2,171 minor-league plate appearances.

With the move, the Phillies designate Mark Appel and Alberto Tirado.
