After an embarrassing showing at home on Tuesday against the Houston Rockets, the Sacramento Kings responded with a confident 117-104 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, pushing their win total against the Eastern Conference to 18. Their 39th win of the season matches their best win total since the 2005-06 season.
“What we were talking about in there is that you get one more, you’re at 40 – that’s a big deal. You get two more, you’re at 41 – that’s a big deal. You’ve got an opportunity in that room right there to. wherever we finished in the entire NBA record-wise last year, to possibly be in the top 16 records in the NBA – that’s a big deal and it’s a credit to our guys and the jump that they are making in learning and improving on a nightly basis,” said Kings head coach Dave Joerger.
The last time the Kings won 39 games, they were coached by Rick Adelman.
Sacramento was led by 23 points from Buddy Hield, 18 from Bogdan Bogdanovic, and 15 from Marvin Bagley in just 20 minutes off of the bench. Corey Brewer only scored two points, on a dunk in transition, but it was his scary fall afterwards that drew the NBA-world’s attention on social media.

“I’m happy that he is alright but that was a crazy fall,” said Bagley.
“I feel good. Slipped off the rim. When it first happened it hurt a little bit but I’m good now,” said Brewer with a smile, “Hey man, I’m still young. I tell these boys I’m still young. We will see tomorrow morning (how I feel) though for real”.
Ball movement was the key for the Kings in the win, dishing out 28 total assists. It’s the 26th time this season they have tallied that many in a game. On the defensive end, Sacramento forced 22 Cleveland turnovers, including 12 total steals.
Sacramento goes for win number 40 Friday night in Utah, the first of their final three games of the season. Their final home game is this Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
