Frankie Montas will attempt to end the Athletics’ five-game losing streak tonight in Anaheim
The perfect word to describe the 2019 Oakland Athletics would have to be “streaky”.
After winning 10-straight games, the Athletics have come down from their hot streak in a big way as they have lost five games in a row heading into Tuesday night’s match up with the Los Angeles Angels.
Frankie Montas (6-2, 2.81 ERA) will get the start for Oakland against an Angles team that has hit him well this season. Montas holds a 4.50 ERA against Los Angeles this year, and will look to contain an Angels offense that has scored 44 runs over their last six games. Oakland has struggled on the road in 2019, going 11-15 away from the Bay Area to start the season. Los Angeles, who holds a lackluster 29-31 record on the season, has found more success at home as they are 15-14 at Angel Stadium.
Ramon Laureano will look to stay hot in Anaheim as he will try to extend his hitting streak to 16. The 24 year-old outfielder is hitting .318 over his last seven games with two home runs and three runs batted in.
Matt Chapman has enjoyed a nice start to the season as he is hitting .272 with 16 home runs and 35 RBI over his first 59 games. The power surge has been a pleasant surprise for the Athletics as Chapman is on pace for over 35 home runs in 2019. The slick-fielding third baseman hit a career-high 24 home runs in 2018.
