Tuesday: Athletics 4, Angels 2

WP: Frankie Montas (7-2, 2.83 ERA), LP: Griffin Canning (2-2, 3.52 ERA), SV: Blake Treinen (12)

Montas played the role of stopper to end the Athletics five-game losing streak on Tuesday night. The ace of the staff allowed two runs over his six innings of work with three strike outs while yielding just four hits. The two runs came in Montas’ last inning with Oakland already up 4-0.

Khris Davis started the scoring with his fourth double of the season in the third inning scoring Matt Chapman to give the A’s an early 1-0 lead. Stephen Piscotty drove in Matt Olson with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to two. Oakland was able to put the game away in the sixth inning on a two-run home run from Ramon Laureano, his eighth of the season, to give the A’s a 4-0 lead they wouldn’t surrender.

Wednesday: Angels 10, Athletics 9

WP: Hansel Robles (3-0, 3.77), LP: Lou Trivino (2-4, 4.40)

Wednesday night was a wild one that featured the Angels having to to come back twice, once from behind six, en route to the win.

The game started out promising for the A’s, jumping out to an early 7-1 lead after opener Joakim Soria allowed one run in the first. Oakland would score four in the second and three on the third with a double from Jurickson Profar and four singles. Oakland wouldn’t get to enjoy the six run lead for long, allowing four in the third and three in the fourth.

Heading to the eighth, Oakland trailed 8-7 but Olson would drive in Marcus Semien to tie the game at eight. The next play went to replay after Matt Chapman was called out at the plate on a wild pitch but replay review overturned the call to give Oakland a 9-8 lead.

With two outs in the eighth, the Angels would load the bases when Ryan Buchter would walk Shohei Ohtani to drive in the tying run. Trivino would then allow the Angels to walk it off in the ninth on a Dustin Garneau ground-rule double.

Thursday: Athletics 7, Angels 4

WP: Mike Fiers (5-3, 4.76), LP: Tyler Skaggs (4-6, 4.97)

Oakland took the series on Thursday night behind a big game from Stephen Piscotty. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. The team scored six of their seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings with those six runs coming off of Skaggs.

Fiers allowed seven hits of his own while striking out five and walking none while allowing three earned runs.
