A’s shortstop Marcus Semien shined last week as Oakland finished the week with a 4-3 record. Semien’s week was good enough to be named the American League Player of the Week.

Semien had at least one hit in each of the Athletics seven games the past week, batting .419 (13-for-31) with two doubles and home runs, nine RBI, and seven runs scored with an OPS of 1.148.

“I was a little surprised, but it’s really cool,” Semien said before Monday night’s game against the Rays. “You usually assume someone is hitting .600 for the week or whatever. I think I had a lot of RBIs and a couple of multi-hit games.”

On the season, Semien is batting .272 with nine home runs and a .792 OPS.
